Who can play in the LAA league?
LAA is open to any child age 5 through 14 (age as of September 1st). You do not have to live in the Lanier cluster nor Gwinnett County. However, there is an additional $90 charge per player for any child not residing in Gwinnett County and this will be verified by Gwinnett Parks and Recreation Department.
How much does it cost?
The registration fee is: $200 for the first child and $185 for each additional child from the same family. There will be no refunds processed after evaluations have commenced.
How do I register my child?
You must register online. Registration is open from early September thru mid-October. Payment is by credit card only for online registration. If payment is not made at registration, a check must be brought the day of evaluations.
When are evaluations?
Evaluations will be held at Lanier High School in the middle of October for 8U and up age groups. Teams will be selected the next week and coaches will contact you during the week. This is not a tryout, simple an evaluation of the players current skills.
How do I sign up to be a coach?
You can sign up to be a coach or assistant coach when registering your child online.
What age groups do you have?
We have the following age groups:
5/6 - Coed
7/8 – boys and girls
9/10 – boys and girls
11/12 – boys and girls
13/14 – boys and girls
How long are practices?
Practices run one hour. Teams will typically practice Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Practices will be held at Lanier cluster schools.
When are games played?
Games are usually played on Friday evenings or Saturdays at George Pierce Park and E Center in Sugar Hill for home games. Away games will be played at the surrounding Rec programs courts. Some games may be at alternate locations depending on availability of the gyms.
How long are the games?
Games are 32 minutes (eight minute quarters with a running clock) and a short half time. Expect roughly 50 minutes total.
What if my child makes the GBL or middle school team and I have already registered?
Any player that registers to play at LAA can receive a refund if they show proof that they made one of the teams listed above. We encourage you to register early in the event that you do not make a school team since registration is on a first come-first serve basis, and you are not guaranteed a roster spot in the recreational league if any age group is already full when you register. If you register early and you do make a team, LAA will refund your registration fee.
How many players are on a team?
Teams are kept as small as possible to allow more playing time for each child. Teams need a minimum of seven players but can have as many as nine. Our experience is that eight players per team is a good balance.
What are some key dates during the year?
A complete calendar can be found on the website. The dates are subject to change.
